How Do You Design Your Own Domino Setups?

Domino, a cousin of playing cards and dice, has long been a gamer’s staple. From professional domino competition to arranging domino setups and knocking them over, the simple yet versatile tool has offered up countless games and tests of patience and skill. The markings on dominoes, called pips, originally represented the results of throwing two six-sided dice. Later, European domino sets added seven additional numbers to the original numbering system, resulting in a total of ten possible outcomes.

Most domino games involve blocking other players’ play or scoring points. Some, such as bergen and muggins, require counting the pips on a domino to determine winning or losing. Other games, such as solitaire and trick-taking, duplicate card games and were once popular in areas where religious proscriptions prohibited the use of cards. Some domino sets also include educational games that help teach children number recognition and basic math skills.

Hevesh began creating her mind-blowing domino setups online when she was 10 years old. Now 20, she works on projects involving hundreds of thousands of dominoes and has millions of YouTube viewers watching her work. Hevesh follows a version of the engineering design process to create her intricate domino arrangements. She starts by considering the theme or purpose of her installation and brainstorms images or words that might be associated with it.

The next step is to consider how she might make the arrangement come to life using the laws of physics and the principles of design. For example, a domino display needs to be stable, which means it should not tip over easily. Hevesh also considers the number of dominoes in her layout and how they will fit together. Once the initial design is complete, Hevesh begins constructing individual dominoes and arranging them in groups.

In some domino games, the winner of the previous hand leads with the highest double in his or her hand. This is known as the opening double. The other players then pick dominoes from the boneyard until they find a matching one. Then, the player must place this domino on an open end of another domino. If the opening double is a triple, the other player scores one point for each domino that matches it.

Domino’s believes in think global, act local. This is reflected in their pizza franchises, where the company places stores near college campuses to attract young customers. The company also tries to innovate with new products, such as stuffed crust pizzas and a salad bar, which are not available at most other pizza restaurants. In addition, they have invested in a new delivery vehicle, which is designed to be fast and efficient. This is consistent with their strategy to be innovative and improve customer service. By focusing on innovation, Domino’s can maintain its market share and gain new ones as well.
